Think
Before You Speak
In James, we are reminded and warned to be careful with our
words. James 3:2 states, "For we all stumble in many
things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able
also to bridle the whole body." This verse is powerful! It
claims that if anyone doesn't sin in WORD, he is PERFECT!!!!! This
suggests... since NONE of us are perfect... that EVERY ONE of us needs to
improve in the way we COMMUNICATE.
James goes on to say in verses 5-6, "Even
so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a
forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of
iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the
whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by
hell."
Just a reminder to all of us to THINK before we SPEAK!
Our words can hurt deeply or give great encouragement. Remember we
all fail with our tongue. How has your speech been? How is your
sarcasm? How are you doing in the area of gossip? Are you speaking
the truth in love? When was the last time you said something nice to
someone? The Bible says to encourage one another daily! Let's do
our best to LESSEN those fires we are so likely to start by asking God... by
His amazing grace to speak through us for His glory!
